Some time a go slapping during grappling was introduced as more like self defence oriented rolling. Does anyone do strikes or slapping during grappling? Is is a thing?
Yes we've done this in my academy and I actually think it's very important. It really gives people a sense of reality on how their Jiu Jitsu might work in a one on one fight situation. It also let's them know that much of their "sport" Jiu Jitsu will not be very useful.
Absolutely. We have a specific program for this that we run 2x per week. It's designed for law enforcement, but we've opened it up to civilians too. Extremely popular class.
Really makes you think about your positioning and what flows you would do in a real situation vs. sport.
We've also done John Wick days, wear some goodwill clothes and rumble. This was super eye opening how to use street clothes in a fight.
Maybe Jason could do a course about this?
Maybe Jason could do a course about this?
@crossover I can possible add something like this, but I'd have to determine what platform it goes on. Grapplers Guide or Strikers Guide maybe both.
Both. Strikers guide needs fresh courses.
@crossover Yes, with the new site in it's final stages we will be working on all platform content.
One of my training partners started Combat Jits UK of which I hopped on to fill a slot on one of the events. So we started adding slaps in with certain training partners. It's super useful to show you where your jiu jitsu lacks in scenarios where strikes are allowed.
