Fundamentals - Which course should I take next ?

    Course Feedback

I'm pretty new here and asked myself what is the difference of the Fundamental courses:

    - simplified
    - phase based
    - core curriculum

I completed the Fundamentals simplified course. I wrote a summary and I'm going to practige that every training as far as its possible. However I wanted to start at least watching the a new course and summarize it.

    Question:
Which of those three (two i can choose from since the first is completed) mentioned above should I choose next ?

    Thank you so much,
    Greetings from Switzerland (Europe)

Core curiculum is more specific foundation. i.e. If you want to start half guard study, go from core curiculum first then you can branch out to a more half guard specialty courses.

That's the way I see it because there are so many courses here and they are overwhelming.

yes, thats true so many courses and its hard for me to decide where to start and where to proceed.

So if I understood you right, your recommendation is to start the core curriculum (lets say guard) , and then proceed with for example one other guard from a different guard course (even if its not in the fundamentals section). right ?

Yes. And also follow along with your gym curiculum. Videos are just supplemental. (I.e. if your coach lesson is closed guard, then just stick to closed guard first).

A suggestion, if you are new to BJJ and grappling, would be after you are thoroughly comfortable with understanding the fundamentals is to really dial in your defense and learn how to close off any attack.
I'd go to the positional and submission escapes after learning the basics.

Its not sexy or glorious and tends to be the most neglected training in ones arsenal. (You cant win if you cant submit right?) But a solid defense is the best platform to launch an attack.

And I can tell you that it is alot of fun to frustrate upper belt with a good defense

I use this approach,my gym goes by monthly themes and I come here to supplement whats being covered in the category of the theme of the month.

The paradox of choice! I have just graded to brown belt and am focusing on the basics all over again. So I am working through the core curriculums with occasional jumps out to explore something that happened in class. I'm looking at it through the lens of 'I'm going to teach this what would be most useful? It's slow but then my BJJ journey is slow started at age 47!
