    Gi Question.

Any effective counters when opponent stands /squats up 1/2 guard and tries to square the hips, what to do from there if your the person on the bottom?

    Videos would help a lot.

If they stand up or squat they won't have any pressure on you, so you can pretty easily move to other positions. You could go for a single-leg and try to wrestle-up. You can also back out and go to other guards, like shin-to-shin.

If you don't have any grips probably transitioning to deep half and then x guard would be something I would do( from there I can sweep or take the back). your opponent's balance will be compromised moving forward or backward so you can try pushing him/her or pulling him/her. An early option would be to drag your opponent's leg out (leg swipe) so you can work on your sweeps and he/she cannot squat.
