Everyone has that one move that for some reason always has felt right. For me it has always been the north south choke, which is ironic because it's one of the hardest submissions to finish lol.
I think the reason a move becomes "yours" has less to do with the move and more to do with much it connects with you.
What is your highest percentage submission right now, and what setup gets you there most often?
Paper cutter. Sometime from stacked pressure passing, but 90% it’s from north-south setup. (As a big guy, I love to lay plenty of shoulder pressure into their chest)
@Gooose I love the paper cut. 100% my go to in the gi, and in No-Gi it's the North South choke.
Mount gets harder with heavy people hard to escape
@Arhades Plenty of lessons to watch on back takes! Over 260!
The Americana. For years I've heard how it's such a white belt move and doesn't work at the higher levels and for years I've continued to hit them consistently on people of a range of skills and experience levels.
If you do the basic day one technique to secure it then it is far too easy to escape but if you use more nuanced setups and grip modifications there's zero reason they can't be hit consistently. I'll often get it from mount or a "high point" side control taking their arm from way above their head and using the urge for them to pull their arm back down to their ribs to assemble and finish the Americana quickly and using their own arm power against them.
@coviedo27 The guillotine is definitely up there for me too. It used to be my #1 go to but things gi in phases for me with what I tend to like at the moment 😊
Darce. Just feels right. Think there's been more than one occasion where I've gone for it where I shouldn't have, but it's still fun to play about with things.
I do love Ezekiels as well!
@berimbimbo both great submissions. I'll admit I don't go for Ezekiel's much but I think I might start spamming them next week 😆
@Jason_Scully extra points for Ezekiels from bottom
I hit a nogi baseball choke from side control in the gi all day long, no one sees it coming.
