I’ve been having trouble against faster people who immediately run around at a 45-degree angle. I feel like I’m too slow to scoot and square back up, so I end up having to defend from side control.
Right now, if they’re directly in front of me, my main answer is usually diving for a leg. I feel like I should have more options, though. What do you guys use to keep someone in front of you or establish grips before they can get around your guard?
Are they going around you directly to a pass?
If someone is faster or more athletic than me, I'll try to stay balled up until I can make a connection. After you make a connection, I think it's easier to wrestle up or play your guard.
