Question about 2 on 1 open guard

Hello I was watching the 2 on 1 shotgun open guard instructional and the arm position is cross sleeve grip with same side grip on the tricep. I was wondering if it was possible that this same open guard can be played with the armdrag grips (i.e. same side sleeve grip with cross side tricep grip). Thanks.

I would personally need to try out the grip. I would initially think that it may be a little harder to pull your opponent's arm across your body if necessary with a switched grip. But as mentioned I would need to play with it a bit to see how it feels.

You can always experiment and see if you find that it creates openings for you to attack with or if it feels weaker in comparison.

My two cents: A good arm drag grip requires much closer distance than any 2-on-1 grip.

Based on the way that I personally play this guard (with a foot on the hip maintaining distance), that range is inconsistent with an arm drag grip.

An alternative grip that I do play is two hands grabbing their wrist, which I use a lot in no-gi. There is less posture control though, but it's relatively secure (as far as no-gi grips go).
