In the four years I was off the mats my shoulders got so tight I can't even start getting put in an Americana before I'm almost screaming. I'm doing a lot of task specific stretching now but I'm worried that maybe I have some arthritic restrictions in the one shoulder because there has been little progress. I have no problems moving my shoulders in any other direction (kimura, across my face, etc). Anyone else dealing with this?

As Jason said, your best option is to work with a PT. They are specialists in this area and may be able to help you overcome muscle imbalances and other physical issues involved.
That said, I have had several shoulder dislocations. After healing, my shoulder mobility was very restricted. What has helped me more that anything is simply hanging from a pull up bar with arms extended. While I am not back to full range of motion, it is much better than it was before.
