Hey everybody, I was just wondering If anybody may have some advice regarding surviving in bad positions, especially back control and side control, I know in mount the survival posture would be too block their hips with your frame, turn to one side and have one leg flat, but I’m not sure about back control and side control, thanks for any advice!

I think that the most important thing to do is to stay calm....breath. Look Feel what your partner is doing to you. There are many escapes to utilize and are available from your instructor or on a bjj site. pick one and go with it. Usually in side control a person is uncomfortable based on pressure. reducing the affects of pressure on the ribs only requires a torso turn into your opponent which makes the pressure go from your side to side instead of from the top of your chest to the back of your chest. If some one has your back try and his back is on the ground try to put your back on the ground. If your chest is on the ground and he is on your back, try to get into the turtle position, then at least you can breath. Hope this helps.
