I saw one of his IG reels that the way he improve so fast and get his black belt within 4 years was to pick one specific move, e.g. half butterfly sweep, and focus on that one move for a week. We have to find the main 3 counters to that move and learn how to act accordingly. After that, we add 3 more counters so on and so forth.

I have began to implement this and I realised that by doing this, my head is full of this specific move too. And during training, the intention really helps me to gain clarity so much faster.

What do you guys think of this strategy and how do I tell my training partners to start in this position without sounding like they are being forced to play my game?

I like the way he sets up his training. I think it's easier if you focus on one guard, one pass, one submission escape at a time. I don't like training a submission from back one day and then training a mount escape the next. I like to study and train one specific Guard, pass etc. for a block of time. I also using drilling for my warmups. I can maximize our training time if I work on guard passes or takedowns for warm ups and then go over lasso for the daily lesson. I also use our previous lessons as warm ups. For example if I did the arm bar and bicep slicer in week 1 then week 2 would include the arm bar and bicep slicer as a warm up before the daily lesson. This way you can drill the move more than one day.

I would wait until open mat to do some type of situational rounds unless you run it by your coach first during class.
