You can usually feel it within the first 30 seconds, long before they submit you.
For me, it’s the lack of wasted movement. Everything feels deliberate. No panic, no unnecessary effort, and somehow you’re always the one reacting.
But I’m curious what people think is the biggest tell.
Pressure? Timing? Balance? Grip fighting? Pace? Or something else entirely?
If you could only pick one, what separates someone who is technically good from someone who immediately feels genuinely high level? And what's the best course of action to replicate it?
I would definitely say pressure and no wasted movements. As far as replicating it, I have focused on not wasting movements and energy if I don't have to. I can't keep up the pace with these younger competitors so I attempt to slow it down. This does get me in trouble sometimes because when they're higher level, the sub is in before I know it but I'm ok with that at this point in my life.
