Not necessarily your “best” position, more the one where even if you’re underneath, behind on points, or giving up something that looks bad on paper, you still feel completely comfortable.
What position is it for you, and what makes you feel so safe there?
Personally bottom side control was a place that nearly made me quit when I first started. Claustrophobic feelings were almost too much. I spent so much of my time there it became home. I built a running man style posture from reading Jiu Jitsu University and have improved and built on that ever since. These days people have questioned why they feel so unsafe when they're in the "dominant" position. Feels good to have turned my Kryptonite into a super power.
I feel safest in closed Guard when defending
when attacking i like mount and all the transitions options when i achieve mount
@kalel
I second this.
Thow/takedown to mount is a really powerful control position to be in.
I would have to say bottom side control. I also felt claustrophobic in this position especially if I was getting tired. I had a 300+ lb training partner at the time and I would let him stay in side control throughout the round. I did this for about 6 weeks. It taught me how to move incrementally instead of explosively to gain frames and free my diaphragm. This is a good survival spot for me until I can escape.
Close guard and mount
I would say I feel safer in bottom-side control if I'm caught more in a dominant position by someone, because it seems that a lot of people don't really know how to finish submissions from side control very well, especially in a no-gi.
It seems that side control finishes from no-gi are terrible for many people. In the gi the paper cutter is always an option so that tends to be a threat. In no-gi side control definitely is something that I would rather be under because I don't really feel threatened as much
