There are loads of things in Jiu Jitsu that get repeated so often they almost become unquestionable. Never give up position. Always fight for inside position. Drill everything both sides. Never concede grips. Always start from your feet. Don’t rely on strength. Keep moving. Stay tight.
Most of those are probably useful in the right context.
But which “good habit” do you think gets overemphasised, misunderstood, or taught so rigidly that it can actually slow people down?
Maybe it’s something that sounds right for beginners but becomes less useful with experience. Maybe it creates bad decision-making because people follow the rule instead of reading the situation. Or maybe it’s just one of those bits of BJJ wisdom everyone repeats because everyone else repeats it.
What supposedly good habit do you think is overrated?
