What's your favourite sweep and why?

I'm just trying to up my sweep game and I wondered what your favourite sweeps were. Is it Gi / No-Gi, does it work in both?
Can you tie it in with a video from the GG? Was there a specific element that Jason explained which changed your whole sweep technique. Thanks.

Scissor sweeps all day! It's extremely basic and a fresh white belt can be taught it off the street with relative ease but looks dramatic and can be effective all the way up the ranks. There are plenty of scissor sweep videos on GG scattered throughout courses but the video that took my scissor sweep from being conquered by upper belts and people of similar skill to working almost universally is from a globetrotter video here: Scissor Sweep Video.

He also covers some general defenses to sweeps as a whole which has been very useful to me too.

My favourite is the technical stand up to single leg. Works gi and nogi and from loads of different guards. Saw a quote from Ryan Hall that said three quarters of guard work could be replaced by coming up on a single and not being terrible at it.

Wrestle up course here on gg might be the place to start.

For sure. I probably wrestle up more than anything.

Other sweeps I do a lot currently are:
    - Dummy sweeps
    - Tripod sweeps
    - Arm drags (wrestling up related)
    - Collar drags

Just the first 2 minutes has got me hooked! Very useful video.

I wasn’t sure what the dummy sweep was so looked it up…I’ve now discovered the whole wrestle up system…I need more time in the day!

X-guard and 50/50 sweeps are my all-time favourites.

Recently I've been doing a lot of no-gi berimbolo and kiss of the dragon attacks, which frequently involve the opponent sitting to his/her butt. In these "double pull" situations a I use a lot of "leg across" technique to complete the sweep.

Also, in no-gi, a very high percentage of my sweeps will involve some sort of single leg takedown finish in order to complete the move. Even 50/50 sweeps can result in a wrestling scramble, so it's really important to drill and perfect your single leg finishes. It's not like wrestling; you don't have shoes to drive, you don't have their shoe to hold onto, you don't have the 1pt push-out to deal with a retreating opponent, and you have to watch out for submissions. When you know the takedown isn't there, don't let them run out of bounds or do the kick-out escape, instead grab the foot and pull them back into X-guard so you can try to off-balance them again.

I love how Butterfly sweeps feels when I manage to pull it off.

Butterfly sweeps and balloon sweeps for me.

I just love the feeling. It kinda makes me feel like a trampoline that my partner just bounces off of!

My 2023 resolution is more wrestle up sweeps. I love arm drags but stop at a close knit back take.

Although I really like dummy, tripod and scissor sweep my favourite and probably most successful is my hip bump sweep. I like it because I truly love my opponent's struggle with my closed guard and then doing the hip bump to top it off, it makes my day lol.
