I’ve been doing BJJ and constrain/ecological learning/teaching is gaining popularity.

Does anyone use similar approach in striking and kicking arts? Getting back to karate and I’d like to use progressive resistance idea also in karate teaching.

It's where you don't actually teach techniques. You set your students off playing games with restraints and they 'teach themselves'. It'll typically be 2 minute games where the attacker gets a win condition and is only allowed to do certain things and the defender has a similar win condition. For instance, you might start in the classic armbar position and the attacker will be told that they need to separate the arms and keep it extended without going for the submission for the 2 minute duration, resetting if the defender manages to achieve their goal. The defender's goal would be to reconnect their hands or escape their elbow, resetting each time they manage to escape the elbow. They would then swap roles at the end of the time.

The idea is to give a very narrow win condition so that by sheer time spent and repetition the players will find the most efficient way of dealing with the situation.
